All students enrolling in the Intensive One-Week Modeling the Human Face Workshop should be aware that this is an introductory course. The limitation of a one-week course should be apparent, given that many people spend years studying and perfecting their craft.
A basic understanding of how to use computers is recommended. No previous Maya experience is necessary, but is beneficial.
Students will come away with a modeled human head and a blend shape rig.
Students will use the Maya polygon modeling toolset to create a realistic human face based on photographs. With a focus on modeling for rigging, students study the anatomy of the face and how to create a polygon mesh that reflects the actual muscle and skeletal structure of the human head. Special attention will be paid to the way different muscle groups move to create different emotions. Students will develop their sculptural skills while learning how their work feeds into the whole animation pipeline, particularly what kind of mesh will make a rigger happy, and what will make the riggers curse them out of a job.
