GIFF’s non-profit mission is to connect service-members to society.
This mission serves three main purposes. First, GIFF ensures that the stories of our military veterans and their families – their triumphs and sacrifices on the battlefield and their struggles on the home-front — are preserved for future generations.
Second, GIFF bridges the gap between the military and civilian populations, fostering mutual understanding and respect. This is an especially important component of GIFF’s mission given that less than 1 percent of the American population currently serves in the U.S. Armed Forces. And, finally, GIFF provides healing for our military veterans who are exposed to the catharsis of the film-watching experience during GIFF events throughout the year.
Many of NYFA’s student veterans and graduates have been shown at the GIFF and NYFA has been a proud sponsor of the 2017 and 2022 GI Film Festival, San Diego.

The Padres are honored to be able to support and pay tribute to the San Diego military community. The team’s efforts began in November in 1995 with the establishment of the Padres’ Military Affairs Department, the first in professional sports. Every season the Padres honor all branches of the US Armed Forces and take the title “Team for the Military” very seriously.
In recent years, student veterans from the New York Film Academy were invited by the San Diego Padres to attend a game free of charge and also had the opportunity to join the production team in the production booth for pre-game production meetings. The students were able to sit side by side with the production staff and learn how the production of the game works first hand.
