Things To Do at NYFA Florence
Florence is an incredible location for aspiring filmmakers, visual artists, photographers, and performers, with a romantic, inspiring ambiance. At NYFA’s Florence campus, students can immerse themselves in the local culture and make lifelong friends from all over the world. The campus offers NYFA-hosted events, where students can connect and network with their peers as well as NYFA faculty. Off-campus, students can explore the rich history of Florence, as the city has a variety of amazing restaurants, gelaterias, cafes, cinemas, museums, landmarks, theaters, parks, beaches, and music venues.
While studying at NYFA Florence, students may participate in a number of on-campus events and activities, such as guest lectures, casting calls, production meetings, and introductory Italian language classes. Students enrolled in semester-long study abroad programs will also have the opportunity to participate in additional trips and group activities, some of which are organized at an extra cost. Previous activities have included guest lectures and performances, a tour of the historic sites of Florence, and the neighborhood surrounding NYFA Florence facilities, group outings to local film festivals and screenings, soccer matches, as well as a cinema-focused weekend trip to Rome, based on availability.
Off-campus, students can explore Florence, visiting nearby restaurants and cafes, entertainment venues including Teatro Della Pergola and Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, local landmarks, such as the Duomo, Basilica of Santa Croce and Palazzo Vecchio, museums including Uffizi Palace and Gallery, Galileo Museum, Da Vinci Museum, as well as the Galleria dell’Accademia, the home of the famous David sculpture by Michaelangelo. Florence also offers open-air markets such as Mercato Centrale, and green spaces such as Boboli Gardens, The Rose Garden, and Bardini Garden.
Florence, in the heart of Tuscany, is also a quick drive or bus ride from The Leaning Tower of Pisa, various archaeological sites such as Populonia, beautiful beaches, as well as the scenic countryside.
There are many local filmmaking, acting, photography, and theatre events, often offered in the native tongue for students interested in learning more Italian.
