Facilities at NYFA New York
NYFA New York is a vibrant campus where students work and study as professionals from day one. Our New York campus, located at the southern tip of Manhattan in Battery Park, has a diverse, energetic student body passionate about the visual and performing arts. On campus, students have access to ample workspaces, filming and production studios, computer labs, dance and voice studios, equipment holding, as well as a fully operational theater, providing students with all of the resources they need to be successful at NYFA.
The NYFA New York campus at Battery Place is a multi-level, modern space where students attend their classes, meet with administration and faculty, connect with peers, borrow equipment, and participate in on-campus events. The bright, inviting space is intentionally built to foster creativity, with classrooms and studios specifically designed for visual and performance arts. Throughout their time at NYFA, students have consistent access to professional-grade equipment, computer labs for editing and post-production, as well as rehearsal space for the performing arts.
To ensure that our students are fully equipped to do their best work, NYFA has one of the largest collections of production equipment in education. Students may borrow professional-grade tools and technology from leading brands such as cameras and camera gear such as dollies, tracks, and gimbals, a variety of lighting gear including basic light packages to large 2k lights, sound gear such as external recorders, microphones, boom poles, and lav mics. Program-specific equipment is also available, such as mic flags for broadcast journalism, ring lights and strobes, seamless paper, and photography backdrops, as well as green screen capabilities. Students can borrow items that match their level of learning, becoming eligible to borrow more advanced equipment as they progress through their respective programs.
NYFA’s on-campus theater is a versatile space where students can showcase their work in a professional, polished format. The space includes a backstage dressing room and surround sound, making it ideal for tech and dress rehearsals, plays, musicals, and live performances, as well as film screenings. The theater is also used as a presentation space for guest speakers and campus events. At the conclusion of many NYFA programs, students will participate in a graduation ceremony at our theater with a final presentation of their work, such as final thesis films, showcase performances, and screenplay readings.
As New York is a city of visual artists, filmmakers, photographers, and performers, students who need creative resources outside of what NYFA offers can easily find whatever they need. The NYC Film Commission and the Mayor’s office are extremely supportive of local film, television, and entertainment, making it easy for students to find locations, source talent, and rent equipment. Students will also have their pick of diverse locations off-campus, often traveling to famous nearby downtown neighborhoods such as Tribeca, Chinatown, the Lower East Side, Greenwich Village, Little Italy, SoHo, as well as easily reachable Harlem, Coney Island, Central Park, and the Brooklyn Bridge for shoots, assignments, and coursework. Students will also work with NYFA’s production office to secure permits and insurance for filming.
