Tracy OliverFILMMAKER

Tracy Oliver is a film and television writer, as well as a producer and actress, whose professional repertoire speaks for itself. She attended NYFA Los Angeles in 2005, graduating from our 4-Week Filmmaking Workshop. Oliver made her writing and production debut in 2009 with the short film La pastisseria. 

She subsequently forayed into acting, playing Nina in thirteen episodes of the web series The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl in 2012. Oliver also wrote and produced the first episode of the series’ second season, titled “The Sleepover.” Notably, Oliver collaborated and co-starred with fellow NYFA alum Issa Rae during her time on the show.

Following her work on The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl, Oliver wrote for two episodes of the TV series The Neighbors in 2012-2013. She then served as executive story editor and staff writer for the series Survivor’s Remorse (2014-2015). 

In 2016, Oliver co-wrote the film Barbershop: The Next Cut with Kenya Barris and Mark Brown. The following year, she wrote the story and screenplay for the film Girls Trip (2017), starring Regina Hall, Queen Latifah, and Jada Pinkett Smith.

Oliver wrote the screenplay and story for the film Little in 2019. That same year, she authored the screenplay for The Sun Is Also a Star, a film she also executive produced. 

Meanwhile, Oliver also created the BET+/Amazon Prime original series First Wives Club, an adaptation of the 1996 comedy film of the same name, which ran from 2019-2022. She also wrote the screenplay and story for the film The Blackening (2022).

Oliver created and currently writes for the Amazon Prime original series Harlem.
