Chris McKay is an award-winning filmmaker behind the worldwide box-office hit animated adventure The LEGO Batman Movie. McKay was nominated for an Annie Award for Outstanding Achievement for Directing in an Animated Feature Production and the film was nominated for a Producers Guild of America Award, a Critics Choice Award, an American Cinema Editors Eddie Award, and an Art Directors Guild Award, among others.

McKay produced The LEGO Ninjago Movie, starring Justin Theroux, Dave Franco, and Jackie Chan. He was co-director, editor, and animation director of The LEGO Movie, and directed The Tomorrow War, starring Chris Pratt, Yvonne Strahovski, and J.K. Simmons for Amazon.

His work as an editor on that film earned him the American Cinema Editors Eddie Award for Best Edited Feature Film, Animation, as well as an Annie Award nomination for Best Edited Animation Feature Film.

McKay will direct Reborn, starring Sandra Bullock for Netflix, Renfield for Universal Studios, and Jonny Quest for Warner Bros. Pictures.

He has directed more than 50 episodes of Robot Chicken, one of the highest-rated and critically acclaimed programs on Cartoon Network. Since its premiere, the show has received 14 Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Short-Form Animated Program, Outstanding Voice-Over Performance, and Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animations and McKay won the Emmy in 2010 for his work as its director. The show has also received five Annie Award nominations and won the award for Best Character Animation in a Television Production in 2008.

Carl Weathers started his career as a successful football star at San Diego State and playing with the Oakland Raiders until he retired from the sport in 1974. Weathers then shifted his focus on acting, beginning with small parts Friday Foster and Bucktown. His big break in the industry came when Weathers starred as Apollo Creed in the blockbuster film Rocky, opposite Sylvester Stallone. He then went on to play Creed in three other Rocky movies.

Weathers also starred in Predator opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger. The following year, Weathers had his first starring role in Action Jackson, followed by four In the Heat of the Night two-hour TV specials that were much better received by critics and viewers alike.

Weathers become known to a new generation as Greef Karga in the popular Disney+ series The Mandalorian, which earned Weathers a Golden Globe nod in 2021 for nod Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Drama.

James Avery was best known as the Uncle Phil on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Avery was a classically trained actor and scholar from New Jersey who joined the US Navy after graduating high school and served in Vietnam from 1968 to 1969. Upon leaving the military, he moved to San Diego, California and began writing TV scripts and poetry for PBS.

He won an Emmy for production while at PBS. In addition sitcom television, Avery was also a voice actor for over a dozen animated television series and features and was host of the popular PBS travel and adventure series Going Places.

Pablo Berger is one of Spain’s most acclaimed international film directors and a former instructor at NYFA. His debut feature film Torremolinos 73 (2003) was a local box office hit and premiered at the Malaga Film Festival, winning Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, and Best Actress. Torremolinos 73 was nominated for four Goya Awards and received prizes in many international film festivals. His second feature, Blancanieves (2013), premiered at the Toronto Film Festival and won over 100 awards worldwide, including ten Goyas, the Special Jury Prize at the San Sebastian Film Festival, nominations for Best Film and Best Director at the European Film Awards, a César Awards nomination for Best Foreign Film, and selection as Spain’s Oscar entry for Best Foreign Language Film.

Berger’s latest film Abracadabra (2017) premiered at the London Film Festival and was also a box office hit in Spain. Abracadabra was a finalist for Spain’s Oscar 2018 entry and was nominated for eight Goya Awards.

The former NYFA instructor’s animated feature, Robot Dreams (2023),was screened at Cannes Film Festival and nominated for an Oscar.

Berger has been collaborating with NYFA since the early nineties and has directed their film program at La Fèmis (France).
