Photography Degrees, Programs, and Workshops at NYFA
At NYFA’s Photography Schools in New York, Los Angeles, and other global locations, aspiring photographers learn the practical and creative elements of the visual art of photography through step-by-step instruction and hands-on projects.
Throughout the programs, students master technical and creative skills in digital photography, as well as web and business industry practices. Under the guidance of our faculty of professional photographers, students establish their unique style that can set them apart as photographers.
As NYFA strives to make education in visual storytelling and the digital arts accessible to the most diverse, international, and broadest spectrum of students, our Photography School is a welcoming community where students can collaborate and begin to build their creative network.

Degree Programs
In NYFA’s MFA and BFA Photography programs, students gain advanced knowledge and techniques in shooting, lighting, printing, editing, graphic design, and video production. With time invested in building an expanded skillset that goes beyond the fundamentals, students explore a wide range of photographic disciplines while getting hands-on experience in fast-paced creative environments.
Throughout their studies, students complete advanced projects that may include a photographic series, promotional videos for a personal website and social media, contributions to our in-house photo magazine, FAYN, as well as a thesis exhibition. NYFA’s MFA and BFA in Photography are available at NYFA Los Angeles. The BFA in Entertainment Media, with a concentration in Photography, is available at NYFA New York.

Certificate Programs
During the 1 and 2-Year Photography Certificate Programs, available at our NYFA Los Angeles and New York campuses, students develop fundamental commercial, fine art, and documentary photography skills.
Our full-time, conservatory-based approach provides aspiring photographers the opportunity to complete hands-on projects which may include self-branding assets, their own photography book, as well as a virtual exhibition and as a portfolio of their best work.

Workshops
The workshops at NYFA’s Photography School teach students the essentials of both the technical and creative sides of photography. Through hands-on projects and one-on-one instruction, students rapidly build skills, completing projects that include a final portfolio. NYFA also offers a variety of online workshops.
This evening, part-time photography workshop teaches the elements of photography through constant shooting, editing, and critique. Students shoot assignments in multiple genres, which may include fine art, documentary, fashion, street photography, studio and location portraiture, editorial, advertising, and other commercial styles.

Online Photography
Workshops
NYFA’s online photography workshops enable students to learn the fundamentals of photography from anywhere. Through immersive classes, hands-on projects, and guidance from experienced photographers, students strengthen their creative and technical knowledge and skills.
The part-time, evening 15-Week Online Photography Workshop at NYFA teaches the skills necessary to research, compose, and capture digital photographic projects. Students are taught to explore and approach each project as a concise statement of artistic and aesthetic intent as they expand their repertoire of techniques.
