In May 2021, we welcomed Commercial Director Eric Steinman as part of The 20/20 Series, created by NYFA’s Creative Director of Filmmaking and Cinematography, Liz Hinlein.
Eric Steinman continues to set new trends of dramatic and technical excellence through his company, Rhetoric, Inc., as well as partnering with top production companies worldwide. Whether it’s a heartfelt family story, a mom-baby bonding montage, a technical visual effects project, or an offbeat comedy/dialogue spot, Eric’s care and passion for casting, performance, detail and design can be seen throughout his award-winning work.
He began his career on the agency side, first in San Francisco and then New York, creating iconic campaigns for AT&T, HBO, PepsiCo and Gillette, turning to directing when the creative chief of TBWA/Chiat-Day suggested he pursue it. As a director, recent clients have included Philips, Kinder, Gerber, Dominion Energy, Merck, LG, Mead-Johnson, Sony, Allstate, Huggies, Texas DFPS, Bayer, Danone, Pampers, Mazda, Visa, P&G, Nestle, Beechnut, McDonalds, Toyota, Friso, Citibank as well as award-winning PSA’s for The Alzheimer’s Association, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and the Partnership for Drug Free Kids.
Always on the leading edge of technology and post-production, Eric’s London International Awards and Cannes-recognized spots for Astro-Mobile were the first TVC’s shot with what has become the industry standard camera, the Arri Alexa. He is also an experienced camera operator, skilled editor and has also supervised post- production in innumerable projects. In addition to the London Awards and Cannes, other award recognition includes Andy, Clio, Art Director’s Club, Addy and AICP/MoMA among others.
The 20/20 Series is a pop-up event that takes us into the homes, hubs, and workspaces of an array of dynamic creative visionaries to allow for relaxed, engaging conversations on craft, creation, and artistic vision. Each conversation with a creative visionary features 20 minutes of discussion with a moderator and a 20-minute Q&A from YOU, the audience.
