1-Week Film Acting Camp for Teens

Learn Introductory and Basic Acting Skills

NYFA’s dynamic one-week acting camp gives teens the chance to explore their interest in acting for film. In just a week, students aged 14-17 build basic acting skills through in-class instruction and on-camera exercises. Studying under the supervision of professional actors and directors, students learn how to tap into their natural talent. No experience is required to attend.

Program DescriptionCamp Name: 1-Week Acting for Film Camp for Teens

The 1-Week Acting for Film Program is an immersive, hands-on course designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of acting for the screen. Over the course of a week, students will develop their on-camera acting skills, gaining a deeper understanding of character development, scene work, and audition techniques. Through structured lessons, practical exercises, and filmed performances, students will build confidence and experience in front of the camera.

Core Subjects

Students will engage in the following core subjects throughout the program:

  • Monologues: Students will work on assigned monologues, focusing on text analysis, emotional connection, and character creation to deliver compelling solo performances.

  • Acting for Film: Students will explore the subtlety and nuance of film acting, learning how to adjust their performances for different shot sizes, maintain continuity while filming out of sequence, and develop the arc of their character in a cinematic context.

  • Audition Technique: This class introduces students to the fundamentals of auditioning and cold reading, helping them build confidence and develop strategies for making strong choices in a casting setting.

  • Scene Study: Through partnered scene work, students will deepen their understanding of acting fundamentals, including listening, reacting, and connecting with scene partners, while refining their ability to bring a written script to life.

  • Voice & Movement: This course is designed to help students develop physical and vocal freedom, improving their clarity, expression, and presence on screen.
  • Improvisation: Students will engage in improv exercises to nurture their instincts, spontaneity, and creativity, enhancing their ability to make bold choices and stay present in the moment.

  • Business of Acting: Students will be introduced to the professional side of the industry, learning about self-marketing, headshots, resumes, and professional materials to prepare them for future auditions and opportunities.

Final Project

By the end of the program, each student will have filmed a professionally shot and edited monologue, providing them with valuable on-camera experience and a final recorded performance to showcase their growth and use for their reel. This hands-on program offers students practical tools, industry knowledge, and confidence in their screen acting abilities, setting a strong foundation for future work in film and television.
