Learn How to Act for Film at NYFA
The New York Film Academy’s 1-Week Online Acting for Film Camp for teens was designed by our faculty of professional actors to immerse students in the specific craft of acting for film. Through in-class instruction and exercises with your smart devices, students receive ample experience in the principles of acting for film to establish a foundation as actors.
Program DescriptionCamp Name: 1-Week Acting for Film Camp for Teens – Online
The 1-Week Online Acting for Film Program is an immersive virtual course designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of acting for the screen from the comfort of their own home. Through live, interactive classes, students will develop their on-camera acting skills, gaining a deeper understanding of character development, scene work, and audition techniques. With a structured curriculum, practical exercises, and personalized feedback, students will build confidence and experience performing for the camera in an online setting.
All classes are conducted live via Zoom, where students will receive real-time instruction, participate in discussions, and engage in guided acting exercises. Before the course begins, each student will be provided with an NYFA email address, which they will use to log in to Zoom and access course materials.
Core Subjects
Students will engage in the following core subjects throughout the program:
- Monologues – Students will work on assigned monologues, focusing on text analysis, emotional connection, and character creation to deliver compelling solo performances. They will receive live coaching and feedback to refine their work and improve their on-screen presence.
- Acting for Film – Through guided exercises, students will explore the subtlety and nuance of film acting. They will learn how to adjust their performances for different shot sizes, maintain continuity, and develop their character’s emotional arc, even when working remotely.
- Improvisation – Students will engage in virtual improv exercises that nurture their instincts, spontaneity, and creativity. Through interactive group activities, they will enhance their ability to make bold choices and stay present in the moment.
- The Business of Acting – Students will be introduced to the professional side of the industry, learning about self-marketing, headshots, resumes, and how to prepare for online and in-person auditions. They will also explore strategies for creating compelling self-tapes, a crucial skill for today’s film and television industry.
By the end of the program, students will have developed key screen acting skills, gained valuable industry knowledge, and built confidence performing on camera in a virtual format. This online course provides a flexible and engaging opportunity for young actors to sharpen their craft and take their first steps into the world of film acting.
