12-Weekend Visual Storytelling Workshop for Kids

Hands-on Filmmaking for Kids

At NYFA’s Film School, students learn how to create their own video content. During our film and storytelling workshop, held on the weekend during the academic year, students aged 10-13 write, direct, and edit their own short films, learning under the guidance of professional filmmakers and directors. Students also take classes in directing, writing, editing, cinematography, and production to round out their education in visual storytelling.

Program Description

Camp Name: 12-Weekend Filmmaking Camp for Kids I

The visual storytelling workshop is designed to give practical training, and students work with state-of-the-art digital cameras and equipment to learn the fundamentals of filmmaking in the most effective way possible — by making films. Students also rotate through different crew positions in their classmates’ projects, which teach them the essential creative and technical aspects of filmmaking.

At the end of the workshop, friends and family are invited to celebrate the final film projects in a special screening. Students also receive a USB drive from NYFA with a digital copy of their work. During the workshop, students need to provide their own lunch.
