Hands-on Filmmaking for Kids
In addition to our level-one visual storytelling workshop, NYFA also offers a level two program. During these hands-on film classes for kids, students aged 10-13 who have already attended NYFA in a prerequisite camp may return to expand their skills in visual storytelling. Our level two program offers students the experience and tools needed to continue making their own video content and films. This is a weekend program held during the academic year.
Program Description
Camp Name: 12-Weekend Filmmaking Camp for Kids II
Prerequisite: 1-Week, 2-Week, or 12-Weekend Filmmaking Camp for Kids
The visual storytelling workshop is structured to teach the creative and technical aspects of filmmaking, focusing on digital cinematography, screenwriting, editing practice and aesthetics, and directing. Throughout our level-two workshop, students learn about set and costume design, locations, shot choices and coverage, and crew roles while creating a short film. The finished product is a film of up to five minutes.
At the end of the program, students can invite their friends and family to celebrate the final film projects in a special screening. Students also receive a USB drive from NYFA with a digital copy of their work. During the workshop, students need to provide their own lunch.
