Core Subjects
Students will engage in the following advanced subjects throughout the program:
- Acting for Film – Expanding beyond stage performance, students will develop their on-camera acting skills with a focus on subtlety, emotional authenticity, and technical awareness. Through scene work, they will learn how to adjust their performances based on shot size, camera movement, and continuity, preparing them for professional film and television roles.
- Audition Technique – Students will gain practical experience in the audition process, learning how to confidently enter the room, interact with an accompanist, and present their audition pieces with professionalism. Emphasis will be placed on selecting the most suitable material for each student and mastering the nuances of a polished audition.
- Pop Rock – With the growing prominence of Pop Rock in contemporary musical theater, students will explore this genre and discover how to sing in a healthy yet personal style. They will work on selecting songs that highlight their individuality while developing the vocal techniques necessary to deliver compelling performances in this high-energy style.
- Ensemble Singing Workshop – This expanded ensemble experience builds upon previous choral training, focusing on expressive ensemble acting, harmonization, and professional ensemble etiquette. Students will refine their ability to work as part of a team, bringing storytelling to life through group performances.
- Movement and Dance – Students will advance their physical storytelling skills through continued training in ballet, jazz, and tap, with an emphasis on musical theater choreography. This class refines movement technique and enhances confidence in dance auditions and stage performances.
- Performance Lab – Each student will work closely with an accompanist and instructor to explore new vocal and acting choices in solo performance pieces. This lab provides a space for experimentation, allowing students to refine their artistry and elevate their storytelling.
- Masterclass – A unique opportunity to learn from an accomplished industry professional, this masterclass offers students insight into the realities of the musical theater world, from auditioning to sustaining a long-term career in the industry.
Final Project
The program culminates in a fully staged graduation showcase, where students will perform solo numbers, ensemble pieces, and choreographed group numbers. This performance serves as a professional-level experience, allowing students to apply their refined skills in a live setting.
The final showcase will be professionally recorded and edited, and students will receive access to two high-quality videos: one featuring the entire performance and another highlighting their individual parts. These videos will be delivered via a Google Drive link a few weeks after the program, providing students with valuable footage for their personal archives, audition reels, or portfolios.
The 3-Week Musical Theater Level 2 Program is designed for students who are eager to challenge themselves artistically, refine their craft, and gain practical skills that will prepare them for future training or professional opportunities.
